Best Winter Perfumes for the UAE (November to March)

Sweet and cosy

Four bottles with vanilla, smoke or coffee at the heart. Our descriptions suggest cooler weather and evenings for all of them.

By the Fireplace

Pink pepper, orange blossom and clove open it. Chestnut, guaiac wood and cade follow, on vanilla, Peru balsam and cashmeran. Our description says it smells of wood smoke, roasted chestnuts and warm vanilla. It is an eau de toilette.

Skip it if you do not like smoke. The smoky wood runs through it.

Althaïr

Bergamot, mandarin and elemi open it. Orange blossom, cinnamon and cardamom follow, on Bourbon vanilla, guaiac wood and praline. Our description calls it warm and inviting, and suggests a light hand in the heat. It is also in our Parfums de Marly guide.

Skip it if you want a dry scent. The base is sweet vanilla and praline.

Narcotic Delight

Cherry, pink pepper and black pepper open it. Cognac, hedione and rose form the heart, on tobacco, vanilla, tonka bean, cedar and patchouli. Our description calls the mood sweet, smoky and a little dangerous, with a dessert-like warmth and a dry tobacco edge.

Skip it if you want something clean and fresh. Cherry, tobacco and vanilla make it dark and sweet.

Amore Café

Coffee, cocoa and bergamot open it. Rose, jasmine and patchouli form the heart, on tonka bean, vanilla, sandalwood and musk. Our description calls it a gourmand with a cosy mood, where the coffee keeps it from being sugary and the florals keep it from feeling heavy.

Skip it if you do not like coffee or dessert-like scents.

Amber and spice

Four warm bottles built on amber, resin and spice. Our descriptions suggest evenings and the cooler months for all of them.

Oajan

Cinnamon, honey and osmanthus open it. Benzoin, labdanum, ambergris and artemisia follow, on vanilla, tonka bean, patchouli and musk. Our description calls it an amber perfume with a rich, cosy and slightly resinous mood.

Skip it if you want something fresh and airy. Oajan is warm amber.

Zefiro

Bergamot, artemisia, elemi and a white wine accord open it. Cardamom, cinnamon, carnation and iris form the heart, on incense, woody notes, amber and honey. Our description calls it warm and resinous, with incense that gives it a calm, almost ceremonial glow. It is unisex.

Skip it if you do not like incense. It runs through the whole scent.

Sauvage Elixir

Grapefruit, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom open it, with lavender in the heart. The base is licorice, amber, Haitian vetiver and patchouli. Our description says it smells sweeter and more resinous than the Eau de Parfum, closer to spiced wood than fresh citrus. We have the 60ml and the 100ml.

Skip it if you want a fresh citrus scent. This one is spiced and dark.

Stronger With You Intensely

Pink pepper, juniper and violet open it. Toffee, cinnamon, lavender and sage form the heart, on vanilla, tonka bean, amber and suede. Our description calls it warm and sweet, with spice that stops it going flat.

Skip it if you do not like sweet scents. Toffee and vanilla lead it.

Oud and wood

Four bottles with oud, from smooth and easy to dark and spicy. A tester is available for one of them.

Oud Wood

Rosewood, cardamom and pink pepper open it. The heart is oud with sandalwood and vetiver, on tonka bean, amber and patchouli. Our description calls the mood calm and polished. It says Oud Wood makes an easy first oud if strong, heavy ouds put you off, and that it feels most at home in the UAE winter months.

Skip it if you want a heavy, dark oud. This one is smooth and lightly smoky.

Oud for Greatness

Saffron, nutmeg and lavender open it. The heart is oud, agarwood oil and patchouli, on musk. It is an extrait. Our description calls it dark, woody and spicy, and says it suits people who already enjoy oud.

Alexandria II

Apple, cinnamon, lavender and rosewood open it. Cedarwood, lily of the valley and Bulgarian rose follow, on amber, Laotian oud, musk, sandalwood and vanilla. Our description calls it smooth and rounded, with fruit and spice giving the woods a gentle sweetness. We have two boxed sizes and a 100ml tester.

Skip it if you want a dry, plain oud. Fruit, rose and vanilla soften this one.

Aoud Line

Oud, rose and vanilla open it. Teak wood, patchouli and sandalwood form the heart, and it finishes with raspberry and amber. Our description calls it an oud with a rich, slightly sweet character, and a good step into oud for anyone who likes it with some sweetness.

Skip it if you want a dry oud. The raspberry and vanilla make this one sweet.

Tobacco and leather

Four bottles with tobacco or leather, each with spice or vanilla to soften it. Our descriptions suggest evenings and the cooler months.

Herod

Cinnamon and pepper open it. The heart is tobacco leaf, incense, cistus and osmanthus, on vanilla, musk and cedarwood. Our description says the vanilla makes the tobacco smooth and slightly sweet rather than harsh.

Skip it if you do not like tobacco or smoke.

Naxos

Lemon, bergamot, lavender and incense from Oman open it. Jasmine sambac, honey, cinnamon and cashmere wood form the heart, on vanilla, tobacco leaf and tonka bean. Our description calls it rich and comforting, with lavender keeping the sweetness from turning heavy. It suggests a light hand in daytime heat.

Skip it if you do not like honey or sweet tobacco.

Ombré Leather

Cardamom opens it. The heart is jasmine sambac and black leather, on patchouli, white moss and amber. Our description calls the leather supple, closer to a worn-in jacket than a saddle. You can pick the Eau de Parfum in 50ml or 100ml, or the Parfum in 100ml, which adds violet leaf, cedarwood and a touch of green tobacco.

Skip it if you do not like leather. It is the main note.

AlUla

Frankincense, black pepper and Guatemalan cardamom open it. Plum, saffron and tobacco form the heart, on vanilla, turmeric and patchouli. Our description calls it a warm spiced perfume, rich and deep, with fruit and spice in balance.

Skip it if you want something light and fresh. Spice, plum and tobacco make it rich.

Boxed or tester

A boxed bottle comes in the brand's retail box, so it suits a gift. A tester is the same perfume in the brand's own tester box, new, unused and unsprayed.
