The Aventus family

Aventus

Bergamot, lemon and green blackcurrant leaf open it. Pineapple, its best known note, comes through in the heart with pink pepper and jasmine, on smoky birch, patchouli and musk. Our description calls it a confident, clean perfume and an easy pick for an everyday scent. The boxed bottle and the tester are both 100ml.

Skip it if you want something sweet or warm. Aventus is fruity, fresh and smoky.

Absolu Aventus

Bergamot, ginger and grapefruit open it. Cardamom, cinnamon and pineapple form the heart, on labdanum, vetiver and patchouli. Our description calls it a richer, more serious perfume than the first Aventus, darker, earthier and more resinous. It suggests evenings and the cooler months, and says it suits anyone who likes Aventus but wants more depth. We have it as a boxed 100ml, with no tester today.

Skip it if you want the fresh, fruity style of the first Aventus. This one is spicy and resinous.

Aventus for Her

Green apple, bergamot, lemon and pink pepper open it, with violet and patchouli behind. The heart is rose with musk, sandalwood and styrax, on black currant, peach and amber. Our description calls it a bright, confident fruity floral, fresh without being sharp, and says the amber base gives it enough depth for evenings too.

Skip it if you want a dark or smoky scent. This one is fruity, floral and soft.

Aventus or Absolu Aventus

Both have pineapple and bergamot. The difference is the direction. Aventus is fruity, fresh and smoky, with birch in the base. Absolu Aventus adds ginger, cardamom and cinnamon and swaps the birch for labdanum and vetiver, so our description calls it darker, earthier and more resinous. If you like Aventus and want more depth, look at Absolu Aventus. If you want an everyday scent for most of the year, start with Aventus.

Boxed or tester

A boxed bottle comes in the brand's retail box, so it suits a gift. A tester is the same perfume in the brand's own tester box, new, unused and unsprayed. It costs less, but the box is the tester box, not the retail box. The Aventus tester costs AED 170 less than the boxed bottle (AED 1,090 against AED 1,260), and the Aventus for Her tester costs AED 220 less (AED 790 against AED 1,010). Absolu Aventus has no tester today.
